Who am i?

I’m not even sure myself. I’m still learning as i’m doing. I enjoy failing, it’s my best teacher.

What I do know is that I am a Los Angeles based, self taught artist, and semi-decent dancer who encompasses both physical and visual mediums such as photography, experimental video, and set design. I have worked in production for over a decade and have worked on countless music videos, photoshoots, television shows, and movies.

My personal work combines surrealism with practicality, blending two worlds together to create visually confusing, but recognizable forms. Using color, form, textures, and bodies, my work transports the viewer to a very specific world, one that based in reality, but does not exist outside the work itself.

As I evolve as an artist I am drawn even more towards surrealism and abstraction, further wanting to bend and distort bodies, disguise forms, and create grotesque vignettes that reflect my inner voice and perception of self. I like to bounce between the dark and moody world of underexposed and low contrast to overly vibrant and hyper-colorful acid trips. The only place I don’t like to live is in between, is a sea of beige.

I worked with my collective, VOMIR from 2014-2021. Without them, I would be far less connected to myself as an artist. We pushed ourselves past what we had envisioned for each project, and I am forever grateful for their support.

Let's chat some more. (aka: tell me you love me.) ROMAN.UDALOV@GMAIL.COM
